Dog Toilet Training in an Apartment
Don't Panic - Apartment training your pooch doesn't have to be a nightmare.
In many respects the process of potty training your apartment dog will be very similar to that used for dogs with their own back yards. Although you (probably) don't have a doggy door, most of the techniques will be the same, and the basic principle that you need to train you puppy - where and when is an "appropriate "place to go to the toilet - remains the same.
One aspect that is likely to be different for apartment dogs, is the area where they are able to go to the toilet - they are likely to have limited access to the outdoors, so are more likely to have a designated indoor area for "going".
If you have a regular routine for walking your dog, he will very quickly learn it and will soon know when (and where) his opportunities to go to the loo will be. However, if you disrupt the routine, or are unable to take your dog on regualr walks, the house training process is likely to be a bit trickier for you.
For house bound pets (and owners), there are some extremely effective Indoor Dog Toilet

Dog Potty Training Tips
- Encourage - Dont Punish. Your puppy wants to please you, he needs to learn how. A heavy hand is not as effective as some friendly encouragement and may very well sour the relationship with your dog.
- There are various methods available to potty train your puppy. Some will be more suited to the temperament of your dog (and yourself) than others. So do your research and try to chose a method that you can relate to - and if one method doesn't suit you - don't give up, another process is likely to work for you better.
- Be consistent - Even the best training method will fail if you are inconsistent with how you apply it.
- Shit Happens. Despite your (and your dogs) best efforts , accidents will happen - be patient and keep some pet stain & odour remover on hand.
- Changing foods can change the consistency of your puppy's poohs. Try to give him a high quality dry food, and stay away from canned food unless suggested by the vet.
- If you are unable at certain times to supervise you dog , consider confining him to a "safe" area, such as a suitable pet crate.

Dog Potty Training - Toilet training your Puppy...
One of the major concerns for owners of new puppies (and even sometimes adult dogs) is how long its going to take to house train their pet - and, perhaps more importantly how many "accidents" there are going to be along the way.
Well... it doesn't really have to be a huge drama, or a chore... and can actually work best if it can be a bit of fun for you and your pup.
Here are some basic tips to get you started...
* Remember that dogs are one of the easiest animals to train (even though it doesn't always seem like it)
* Be aware of your dogs behaviour - when your dog needs to "go", he may start doing circles, or sniff and scratch at the door. If you can be on the lookout for these behaviours, training your dog can be much easier.
* If you don't already have one installed, consider putting in a doggy door. Once your puppy learns how to use it, he wont have to come to you to let him out when the need arises.
* Routine is important - set up a regular routine of going for walks - ideally, morning and evening, and encourage your dog to "go" during the walk.
* Make sure that you praise you dog whenever he "goes" in the right place. Positive encouragement will help a great deal in the process of house training your dog.
* Mild punishment may also necessary when your pet has an accident. A few angry words should do the trick.
House training your dog is a process that all puppy owners need to go through... Some pups pick it up very easily, others take a bit longer, but ultimately, with a little patience and perseverance you and your dog will both succeed.
